Negotiating Tips

Negotiating is a skill that most people are not born with. However, it is very easy to learn. With my negotiating skills I have been fortunate enough to get my sellers a minimum of 2-1/2% to 4% more in the sale price of their home. My goal here is to help you learn a few simple techniques to help you maximize your sale price.

  1. Don’t be in a rush, take your time
  2. Don’t be the first party to give a number out. Wait for the other side to let their numbers talk first
  3. After the first offer is made, don’t say anything except “We will let you know our reply within 24 hours”.
  4. After an offer is accepted, whether it is a contingent offer or not, don’t lose your marketing focus or momentum
  5. Be specific on the contract for your terms. Like your closing date, possession date and time, inspections and re-inspections, time limits on each.
  6. Whenever in doubt about any part of the contract or the price, walk away to give yourself time to think.
